Talks by prominent officials in the international community, information about opportunities to study abroad and feature films from around  the world will highlight a week of campus events focusing on international education. 

International Education Week is a joint effort of the United States Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote awareness about global educational opportunities and benefits. 

The University’s Office of International Education and International Student Services Office are co-sponsors of the campus activities, which run through Friday, Nov. 21.

According to Dr. Rodolfo Hernandez, director of the Office of International Education, the week is an ideal time to talk about international education at UT Dallas. The opportunities include study abroad and exchange programs, global research opportunities and the international student communities on campus.

“This week promotes educational values, while enhancing the internationalization of UT Dallas through the participation of students, faculty and staff,” Hernandez said.

Activities will include:

  • Religious tolerance program, featuring Dr. Robert Hunt, director of Southern Methodist University’s Global Theological Education program.  The lecture is sponsored by the International Student Services Office, in partnership with Residential Life and the Multicultural Center.  The program will include a student panel.
  • Global film series, in collaboration with the Student Activities Advisory Board, Meteor Theatre and Global Village. Films to be shown include The Bet Collector (2004) from the Philippines and Let the Wind Blow (2004) from India.
  • Details about study and research abroad programs. Information will be provided by the Office of International Education.

“International Education Week is an exciting time at UT Dallas,” said Cristen Casey, director of the International Student Services Office.  “It provides an opportunity to foster and support a culture that celebrates diversity, and to recognize the benefits of international exchange for UT Dallas and the broader community.”

Most International Education Week activities are aimed at the campus community, but  the public is also welcome.
