WHAT DO WE MEASURE IN THE DLBS

WE VISUALIZE BRAIN STRUCTURES

Participants have their brains scanned with an MRI machine, which allows us to see the brain’s structure.

WE CAN SEE THE LIVING BRAIN IN ACTION

Using MRI, we also look at patterns of brain activity while participants learn new information. We actually can visualize the neural circuits each person uses to learn!

WE EXAMINE THE CONNECTED BRAIN AT REST

We study how connections among brain systems differ with age while individuals rest quietly in the MRI machine.

WE IMAGE ALZHEIMER’S BIOMARKERS IN HEALTHY ADULTS

A PET scanner is used to visualize the plaques (amyloid protein) and more recently, the tangles (tau protein) associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

WE RELATE BRAIN MEASURES TO COGNITION

Participants perform a broad range of neuropsychological tests, as well as tests of well-being and personality.
